Every listing site on the internet will tell you what there is to do on Rhodes. Almost none of them will tell you whether you can get there on the bus and be back the same evening. That is the only column here that matters, so it is the one we lead with.
These sit on corridors the operators publish out of Rhodes Town. What none of them publish is the last stretch — the walk from where the bus actually stops to the thing you came for — so that is what these say. The route page carries the current schedule and the stand.
A Doric temple to Athena Lindia on a rock above a pedestrianised white village, inside a later crusader fortification. Ticketed at the gate. The bus corridor that serves it is the busiest tourist run on the island, which is what makes it the most straightforward full day out of Rhodes Town.
Deep, soft sand in a wide bay under a monastery rock, organised in season. The best beach day on the island for anyone without a car, and the one that most often goes wrong.
A restored 1920s thermal spa on a small rocky bay: domes, colonnades and rock terraces stepping down into deep water. Ticketed at the gate, separately from anything you pay the bus. An afternoon rather than a day.
A shaded ravine walked uphill on wooden bridges and steps, where Jersey tiger moths gather in dense clusters through the high summer. Outside those months the site is open and the moths are not there.
A whole Hellenistic town terraced up a hillside above the west coast — streets, houses, cisterns and a temple terrace, unusually complete because nothing was built over it. Almost nobody is ever there.
The walled city the Knights of St John left behind, inside its own moat, and the one major sight on Rhodes that needs no journey planning at all. Free to walk into; the museums inside it are ticketed individually.
The network reaches all three of these — they are on the routes index — but reaching somewhere and getting back from it inside a day are different questions. The far south, the interior and the far west run on the thinnest services on the island, and a plan that depends on one of them lining up is not a plan. Say so plainly rather than sell a day that strands people.
The sand spit at the southern tip where two seas meet across a few metres of beach, and the island’s serious windsurfing water. It is a long way down the island from Rhodes Town.
The wine villages under Mount Attavyros, and the reason people talk about the interior of Rhodes at all. Tavernas, cooperatives and a completely different island from the coast road.
A ruined Knights’ castle on a rock stack above the south-west coast, with the best view on the island from the chapel at the top and very little else around it.

Before you book anything
If the thing you want is on the reachable list, the public bus will almost always do it more cheaply than a tour will, and the only figure that decides the day is the last departure back. Both KTEL Rodou and Δ.Ε.Σ. ΡΟΔΑ publish their own current schedules; this guide will not print a departure time it has not reconciled against them.
